Week 06 John Berkey and Perspective

This week we studied perspective through analyzing John Berkey's artwork.
I decided to take this opportunity to try a new art style as well
to help myself loosen up when drawing.

HW3 Frank Frazetta Value Study

This week, we looked at the work of Frank Frazetta.
His work is incredible and definitely worth looking into for value studies.
Here is a mood board with some of my favorite Frazetta pieces.

Here's the piece I decided to add value to for the study:

HW2 Brian Froud

This week we took reference from Brian Froud.
Here's a compilation of his illustrations that inspired me for this assignment.

I personally liked the little character on the bottom right the most, and
saw a great opportunity to formulate some designs based off of its silhouette. Here they are:

HW1 Basic Shapes Syd Mead

Our first homework assignment was to study a piece from Syd Mead
and push ourselves to analyze it's structure in basic shapes,
as well as try to understand the lighting behind the work.

This is the original piece I chose to study.
It has a strong composition, lighting setup, and foundation in shapes
and I feel as though it would be a great piece to challenge myself in this study.

Started with rough linework to block out the initial shapes that I saw.

Committed to the linework a little more to lay
the groundwork for the rest of the study.

Solid color to start the base before adding shadows and highlights.

Initial shadows to help with depth and sense of light.

Highlights added to emphasize lighting.

2nd pass of highlights and shadows to clean it up some.

Final touches on the shadows and highlights as well as added
background colors to help the vehicle pop a little more.
